Envira Amazonia Project Passes 2022 Verification Audit Under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard and Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – 16 October 2026 – Climate Investment Partners (CIP) announces that the Envira Amazonia Project (VCS 1382), a REDD+ forest conservation project protecting nearly 200,000 hectares of tropical rainforest in the State of Acre, Brazil, has passed its 2022 verification audit under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) Standards.
The approval confirms, through an independent audit and Verra’s own review, the emission reductions the Project generated during its 2022 monitoring period. This event represents the first CIP project to be verified, and the Project’s first verification since CIP became a Project Proponent in 2024.
What the 2022 verification confirms
Every monitoring period of a VCS-CCB project goes through two independent checks. First, an accredited validation and verification body verifies the project’s monitoring report against the approved methodology, in this case VM0007. Then Verra reviews that project before it approves any issuance.
For Envira Amazonia, the 2022 verification confirms – in addition to the multitude of community and biodiversity co-benefits – that the forest inside the project area remained standing and that the Project avoided 165,000+ tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions (tCO2e) during. The approval clears the way for the issuance of Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) for the 2022 vintage.
A REDD+ project protecting the western Amazon
The Envira Amazonia Project has protected rainforest along the Jurupari River, near the town of Feijó, since 2012. The region faces pressure from cattle ranching, slash-and-burn agriculture and road construction, the main drivers of deforestation in the region.
The Project is validated under both the VCS and the CCB, where it earned the Triple Gold Distinction for exceptional climate adaptation, community and biodiversity benefits. Its forests are home to Amazon river dolphins (Inia geoffrensis), scarlet macaws (Ara macao) and jaguars (Panthera onca), as well as threatened timber species such as Spanish cedar (Cedrela odorata) and big-leaf mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla).
Benefits for communities along the Envira River
Carbon finance from the Envira Amazonia Project supports the families who live in and around the forest. Project activities include:
- Alternative income and employment opportunities
- Agricultural extension training and alternative livelihoods
- Better access to local dentists, doctors, health clinics and medicine
- Donated water filters, Starlink systems, and solar photovoltaic systems
- Support for official land titles that strengthen local land tenure
“Verification is how we show that the forest is still standing and that every credit is backed by real, measured results. Passing the 2022 audit took 19 months of hard work with the auditor and Verra, and it reflects the commitment of our local partners and the communities.” — Brian McFarland, COO, Climate Investment Partners
Looking ahead
CIP will continue monitoring the project area and preparing for the next verification of the Project’s 2023-2025 activities.
