The Envira Amazonia Project in Acre, Brazil Submitted for CCBS Public Comment Period
[Charlottesville, Virginia, USA | April 1, 2026]
A landmark Amazon conservation initiative has entered a significant new phase. The Envira Amazonia Project in Acre, Brazil is now under review for its sixth verification to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCBS), and Verra has opened the official public comment period.
About the Envira Amazonia Project
The Envira Amazonia Project involves numerous local and international partners that will collectively protect nearly 500,000 acres in the Amazon Rainforest — the world’s largest rainforest — from conversion to large-scale cattle ranches and prevent millions of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
It is a Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) project that shall mitigate deforestation, preserve extraordinary biodiversity, and provide alternative economic opportunities to local communities.
The Project holds CCBS certification with Gold Distinction for exceptional biodiversity and community benefits, along with Gold Distinction for climate change adaptation measures, among the highest levels of recognition available under the CCBS Standard.
Community and Ecosystem Benefits
Social projects and activities to mitigate deforestation pressures and benefit the local communities include, but are not limited to: agricultural extension training courses; improving local schools and health clinics; and developing local infrastructure to collect, transport and sell locally-sourced coffee and rubber. To date, the Project has built community bathrooms, built an onsite health clinic, contracted agronomists, installed solar panels, improved rural communication with Starlink, and facilitated numerous doctor and dentist visits.
The Envira Amazonia Project is also providing a variety of essential ecosystem services such as: erosion and flood control; water cycling, filtration and storage; oxygen production and nutrient recycling; and habitat for thousands of native Amazonian plant and animal species including several vulnerable tree species and numerous endemic bird species.

Public comment periods are a core part of the VCS and CCBS verification process. They provide independent scrutiny of project performance data and give buyers, investors, and stakeholders the opportunity to engage directly before credits are issued. For those tracking high-integrity nature-based solutions in the voluntary carbon market, this is an opportunity to review the Project’s monitoring record firsthand.
Why This Milestone Matters
Reaching a sixth verification cycle is a meaningful signal of project durability. In a market that is increasingly rewarding integrity and penalizing projects that fail to deliver on their stated benefits, as reflected in the recently published VCS Version 5 and the growing influence of the ICVCM Core Carbon Principles, a project with this track record represents a high standard for REDD+ performance.
At Climate Investment Partners, we follow verification milestones like this one closely. They inform how we assess co-benefit delivery, community resilience, and long-term additionality across our own project portfolio, which is 66% focused on ARR initiatives across Africa and Latin America.
We encourage anyone with an interest in high-integrity carbon projects to review the Envira Amazonia Project’s documentation and engage with the public comment process.
