Biodiversity
The Project is likely to provide exceptional biodiversity benefits. Despite its degraded status, the Project Zone is home to remarkable species, including the Eastern gorilla (Gorilla beringei, critically endangered), chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes, endangered), secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius, endangered), and African savanna elephant (Loxodonta africana, endangered), as per the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.
Community benefits
The Uganda Native Reforestation and Agroforestry Project will:
- Increase and diversify income sources;
- Improve water management and access;
- Enhance education and training opportunities;
- Promote better health and quality of life;
- Develop new skills and create new industries;
- Facilitate the transfer of technical knowledge; and
- Create opportunities for agroforestry development.
