Jamie has dedicated his career to developing and implementing ecosystem services projects making a substantial impact on the field of forest conservation around the world. He has extensive experience in the field of tropical forest ecology, geographic information systems, soil biogeochemistry, and land-use change science. He has led over 16 forest carbon projects from conception through validation, verification, and registration; and served as VCS technical expert and forest carbon expert for 20+ years. He has spent over 14 years planning, designing, and assisting with the implementation of conservation projects that have conserved over 500,000 hectares of land throughout the world. Further, Jamie has also developed nutrient banks, wetland mitigation banks, and stream mitigation banks. His skills on the project management and consultation front have made him proficient in pulling together diverse stakeholders, including private individuals, environmental non-governmental organizations, public companies, and government agencies in pursuit of these conservation efforts worldwide. Demonstrating excellent leadership skills and expertise in the subject matter, James launched his first company, Ostrya Conservation Inc., in 2017. In this company, he led the rapid growth of an environmental consulting startup, including generating and selling nutrient credits as part of a Virginia Department of Environmental Quality Compliance program.

James has an MS in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia with a concentration in tropical forest ecology. His conservation project development and research experience have been global in scale including his work in Brazil, the Caribbean, Chile, China, Ecuador, Ireland, Malaysia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Philippines, Poland, Switzerland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and throughout the United States.
