BIODIVERSITY
The project will restore valuable wildlife habitats and corridors, including for the proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) and the long tailed grey macaque (Macaca fascicularis; both endangered species per the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species). Mangroves also serve as important nursery and breeding areas for fish and crustaceans. These breeding areas enhance the abundance and diversity of fish in nearby seagrass and coral reef ecosystems.
COMMUNITY BENEFITS
Pesisir Biru Nusantara: An Indonesian Mangrove Restoration Project will:
- Promote sustainable and gender-equitable income generation through employment in mangrove restoration, nursery operations, and site maintenance; and
- Increase incomes and food security by offering opportunities in small-scale agroforestry and silvofishery, such as crab fishing, for local community members in remote areas.
