Community Restoration of Native Ecosystems in Ghana Project Achieves Verra Validation and Registration
[Charlottesville, Virginia, USA; Singapore; 10 July 2024]
Climate Investment Partners (CIP) and Three Trees (3T) are pleased to announce that the Community Restoration of Native Ecosystems in Ghana Project has achieved official validation and registration with Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). This milestone paves the way for up to 50,000 hectares of native species restoration on degraded communal lands and forest reserves, signaling a new era of nature-based climate solutions in Ghana.
Driving Positive Change in Ghana’s Landscapes
The Community Restoration of Native Ecosystems in Ghana Project seeks to:
- Boost Forest Cover: Planting native species to revitalize heavily degraded lands and forest reserves.
- Enhance Biodiversity: Creating wildlife habitats and corridors are crucial for preserving local species and ecosystems.
- Improve Water Infiltration & Erosion Control: Strengthening soil health and reducing erosion in rural Ghana.
- Sequester Carbon is pivotal for global climate change mitigation by capturing carbon dioxide.
“We are excited to work alongside 3T on this important initiative,” said James Eaton, CEO at Climate Investment Partners. “We will continue to build upon the Project’s early successes, leveraging our expertise and resources to drive positive change in Ghana.”
Scaling Up & Building Partnerships
With the Project now fully validated under the Verified Carbon Standard, CIP, and 3T are focused on scaling the reforestation efforts while also working towards:
- Incorporating the Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCBS): Ensuring that community and biodiversity benefits are recognized.
- Formal Recognition from the Ghanaian Government: Building national support for this large-scale reforestation strategy.
- Securing Project Financing: Drawing investor interest to bring the project to full scale.
“This milestone marks a significant step forward in our goal to restore 50,000 hectares in Ghana. We are now working hard to reach our next big milestone: closing our first project financing deal. If you are interested in a high-quality nature-based project in Ghana, let us know. We would be delighted to speak with you,” said Ian Shimizu, CEO at 3T.
“This achievement represents a significant step forward in our efforts to restore heavily degraded lands and revitalize biodiversity in Ghana. We are dedicated to creating economic opportunities for our communities, especially women and young people. We look forward to forging great partnerships with everyone interested in coming on board” said Solomon Yamoah, Chief Africa Officer, at 3T.

About Three Trees (3T)
Three Trees (3T) is a purpose-driven company dedicated to mitigating the impacts of climate change and biodiversity decline through restoring native forests. Our goal is to create large-scale reforestation projects that generate carbon credits. In Ghana, rampant deforestation has triggered a decline in soil fertility, crop yields, and drastic changes in precipitation patterns, consequently impacting livelihoods adversely. By restoring Ghana’s forests to their former glory, 3T seeks to reverse this trend.
We envision a future where local communities thrive in harmony with nature. This vision underscores our commitment to people-centered sustainable development and a planet that continues to nurture life and livelihoods. To achieve our ambition to restore degraded lands, 3T needs to employ a suitable staff to ensure that our restored forests are as close as possible to the native ecosystems that previously thrived on those lands.
