Climate Investment Partners Acquires The Envira Amazonia Project – A Tropical Forest Conservation Project, Committing to Continued Environmental and Community Impact
[Charlottesville, VA; 9 May 2024]
Climate Investment Partners (CIP) is excited to announce the acquisition of CarbonCo’s globally recognized The Envira Amazonia Project – A Tropical Forest Conservation Project, an award-winning initiative dedicated to protecting one of the world’s most vital ecosystems: the Brazilian Amazon. Located in the State of Acre, the Envira Amazonia Project spans nearly 200,000 hectares (500,000 acres) of tropical rainforest along the Jurupari and Envira Rivers near Feijó, Brazil. This large-scale forest conservation project stands out for its dual focus on combating deforestation while uplifting local communities through education, health care, and sustainable economic development initiatives.
A Holistic Approach to Environmental and Social Impact
The Envira Amazonia Project addresses critical environmental threats such as deforestation caused by cattle ranching and subsistence farming. Through proactive conservation, the Project preserves biodiversity while fostering community resilience.
Key Conservation and Community Initiatives:
- Rainforest Preservation: Safeguarding 200,000 hectares of tropical rainforest.
- Biodiversity Protection: Creating wildlife corridors for endangered species.
- Community Empowerment: Hiring local agronomists, providing land recognition for local communities, and offering employment.
- Educational Support: Renovating schools and implementing educational programs.
- Health and Sanitation Improvements: Establishing clinics, installing solar panels, and building sanitary facilities.
Global Recognition and Certification Standards
The Envira Amazonia Project adheres to the highest sustainability standards, including the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCB). Notably, the Project earned the prestigious “Triple Gold Distinction” through the CCB for its exceptional contributions to:
- Climate Change Adaptation: Incorporating climate change adaptation measures through agricultural extension services.
- Biodiversity Conservation: Protecting species-rich habitats and promoting ecosystem resilience.
- Community Development: Enhancing living standards through sustainable infrastructure and job creation.
Driving Positive Change Through Carbon Credit Revenues
Central to the Project’s success is its innovative approach to leveraging carbon credit revenues to fund forest conservation efforts. By monetizing emissions reductions, the Envira Amazonia Project reinvests in environmental preservation while fostering socio-economic development.
“We are excited to continue the success of CarbonCo and the dedicated team behind the Envira Amazonia Project,” said James Eaton, CEO of Climate Investment Partners. “We will build upon its remarkable legacy by applying our expertise and resources to drive lasting environmental and social change in the Amazon Basin and beyond.”
Looking Ahead: A Shared Vision for Sustainable Impact
As the new stewards of the Envira Amazonia Project, Climate Investment Partners is committed to enhancing its impact through strategic partnerships and continued investment in conservation, sustainability, and community development. By combining financial expertise with a passion for environmental stewardship, CIP aims to further scale the Project’s contributions to global climate action and sustainable development.
